Privacy Policy


Logging

Out of consideration for events which may affect security, relevant access data are logged each time the web server rostlab.in.tum.de of TU München is accessed. Depending on the access log used, the log data file will contain items with the following information:

  • IP address of the computer requested
  • Date and time of the request
  • Access method / function intended by requesting computer
  • Input values (file name, etc.) transmitted by requesting computer
  • Access status of Web server (file transferred, file not found, command not executed, etc.)
  • Name of file requested
  • URL from which the file or the desired function was requested
  • Browser and version number used
  • Operating System
  • Quantity of data transferred

Purpose of Logs

Recorded data are used for the purpose of identifying and pursuing invalid accessing of, and attempts to gain access to the Web server and - in an anonymous form - to optimize Web content.

For reasons of technical security, in particular to prevent attacks on our web server, we store these data for a short period of time. User input is stored for up to one month to provide a faster service (due to caching) and alleviate resource strain. It is impossible to discern the identity of individual persons based on this data. After seven days at the latest, the data is anonymized by shortening the IP address at the domain level, so that it is no longer possible to establish any reference to the individual user. The anonymized data will also be processed for statistical purposes. We don't compare any data to data in other databases or forward them to third parties, even in excerpts.

Cookies

This website uses things called “Cookies” to ensure your experience of the site, and our ability for it to be improved and enhanced. Specifically, the following Cookies are in use:

  • First-party cookies, aka session cookies, categorised as “strictly necessary cookies” under the GDPR, used by PredictProtein.org for proper functioning of the website.

Period of Record

Logged data are saved for a period of up to one month and then deleted. Aggregated and processed data is anonymized.

Analysis

Analysis is conducted by employees of the Rostlab of TU München. No personal data collected on predictprotein.org, or any of its subdomains, are shared with any other 3rd parties.

When the user has set their web browser to "I do not want to be tracked" (DoNotTrack is enabled) then visits by that browser will not be tracked

In order to evaluate and analyze web traffic visiting predictprotein.org and login.predictprotein.org, we use a self-hosted version of matomo, applying data anonymization techniques in order to protect user privacy and comply with the GDPR. No traffic data is transmitted to 3rd parties.

Email security

Should you send us an email, your email address will be used only for correspondence.

Liability

The information offered by Rostlab and TU München contains links to external Internet pages. Rostlab and TU München provides access to the use of this content (§9 Teledienstgesetz) via link. It is not responsible for this "foreign" content because it does not initiate the transmission of information, select the addressees of transmitted information, or select and alter transmitted information. Nor does the automatic temporary saving of this "foreign information" result from Rostlab's and TU's methods of linking and access. Thus, in this way Rostlab and TU München is similarly not liable for this foreign content. When a link is first is created to such internet content, however, Rostlab and TU München does verify whether that foreign content may result in possible civil or criminal legal liability.


Personally Identifiable Information (PII)


In addition to the collected data listed above, users of PredictProtein, at both predictprotein.org and login.predictprotein.org, have the opportunity to provide an e-mail address.

  • At predictprotein.org, when provided, the optional e-mail address is used for notifying the user of the status of their sumbitted job, and for fulfilling deletion requests.
  • At login.predictprotein.org, an e-mail address is required in order to differenciate and provide services for individual user accounts, requests to reset a user's password, account validation, account deletion, as well as for notifying the user of the status of their sumbitted job.

When using login.predictprotein.org, which was designed to offer the user a history of their submitted protein squences, an account is necessary in which the following additional information is stored:

  • Cryptographically-hashed password
  • Date and time of account creation
  • Date and time account was last accessed

Using an e-mail address at both predictprotein.org and login.predictprotein.org makes it possible to associate an e-mail address with the user's corresponding submitted protein sequences.


What are your data protection rights?


Rostlab would like to make sure you are fully aware of all of your data protection rights. Every user is entitled to the following:

  • The right to access: You have the right to request Rostlab for copies of your personal data. We may charge you a small fee for this service.
  • The right to rectification: You have the right to request that Rostlab correct any information you believe is inaccurate. You also have the right to request Rostlab to complete the information you believe is incomplete.
  • The right to erasure: You have the right to request that Rostlab erase your personal data, under certain conditions.
  • The right to restrict processing: You have the right to request that Rostlab restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
  • The right to object to processing: You have the right to object to Rostlab's processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
  • The right to data portability: You have the right to request that Rostlab transfers the data that we have collected to another organization, or directly to you, under certain conditions.
